The inflation of the cosmos. In the last decade, the speculative resurrection of non-conceptual negativity on a cosmic scale is taking place.

Receive the world. Blame philosophy, blame science, blame technology, blame politics. As a probably most completed (sonically, aesthetical, metaphysical, political and cryptic) form of negativity, black metal was soon, yet with considerable historical latency, established as a theoretical forefront of such a resurrection. blame black metal. Blame black metal as a form of thinking, which at the same time establish and eliminate the contradiction of contemporary historical conjuncture. Also, blame black metal for its truth of extinction and numerous ontological and political consequences that follow.

Larva formed in glorious negativity. Between the years of 2009 and 2015, several Black Metal Theory Symposiums were conducted, which foregrounded the subterranean world of interconnected forces of theory and black metal, both in the widest possible terms. Our aim is
to resurrect such a glorious and larval (non)connection once again, especially in our regional context of a theoretical tradition that was fully preoccupied with a limited conception of negativity on the one hand and analytical preoccupation with other, more affirmative subcultural tendencies on the other.

Another form readying the destroyer. We also believe – what an inappropriate word – we could create an opportunity to critically reflect on black metal theory, especially in the context of further penetration of black metal in (popular) culture and often contested multifarious nature of black metal, but also to reflect on a wider epistemical, historical and para-institutional conditions for the constitution of black metal theory. Perhaps the time is right for the second wave of black metal theory or perhaps it is time to put black metal theory in oblivion to resurrect in another time and another place.

THE INTERANTIONAL CONFERENCE WILL BE HELD IN LJUBLJANA, SLOVENIA, ON APRIL 18TH 2019. Our main goal is to use knowledge of different disciplines to advance the study of specific topics related to black metal and similar phenomena. We also hope to contribute to the further theorization of black metal and development of black metal theory.
The editorial board welcomes particularly (but not exclusively) contributions focusing on aspects of negativity in black metal as well as the following approaches to the theorization of black metal:

Metatheoretical, critical approach towards black metal theory.
– Why black metal theory?
– What is black metal theory? I.e., the (re)conceptualization of black metal theory.
– Is there a theory inherent to black metal or is it only a theory about black metal?
– Unilateral/bilateral relation between theory and black metal.
– What is the relation between black metal theory and (black) metal studies?
– An assessment of black metal theory: Is it consistent? What are its flaws?
– Contextualization: the historical conjuncture of theory/philosophy and black metal.
– Black metal (theory) as an inhuman mode of thinking.
– Black metal as a form of (non)mediation and or (non)communication.

Politics of metal;
– National socialist black metal – a take-over or an inner tendency?
– New right movements and black metal.
– Anti-fa strategies against the far right in metal.
– The metalhead as a militant.
– Black metal as a form of ideology.
– Black metal and nostalgia.
– Black metal and its relation to modernity and civilization.
– Black metal as a xenochronic temporality.
– Black metal and its utopian and dystopian tendencies.
– Black metal as a form of xenopolitics.

Cultural and historiographical approach;
– Wider historical contextualization of black metal.

– Popularity of black metal, i.e., the mainstreaming of black metal.

Black metal, religion and metaphysics

– Strategies of desecration.

Musicological approach;
– Analysis of techniques and sonic procedures of black metal and related genres.
– Influences of the development of specific technologies on the evolution of metal music.

Phenomenological approach;
– Phenomenological analysis of the act of listening to metal.
– Black metal as mood and atmosphere.

Black metal in Slovenia;
– Formation, history and local specifics of black metal scene in Slovenia/Yugoslavia/Eastern Europe.
– Black metal in context of socialism/postsocialism.
– Musicological specificities of Slovenian or East European Black metal.

New perspectives and innovative approaches to the conceptualization of black metal and related phenomena.

We invite proposals for panels, round table discussions, and papers addressing the outlined conference theme. Abstracts of under 250 words should be sent to bmt.ljubljana@gmail.com by
10th January 2019 at the latest.

Submissions should include the author’s name, academic qualification, institutional affiliation and position, contact information (address, email).
Scholars who will submit their proposals by this deadline will be notified of their acceptance prior to 15th february 2019. The official languages of the conference is English.

Super slabi filmi: Who killed Captain Alex (2010)

Na zadnji seansi letošnjih slabih filmov bomo debatirali o internetnem hitu, tovarni memov, prvem ugandskem akcijskem filmu, Who Killed Captain Alex.

Film si lasti tudi najvišjo oceno slabih filmov do sedaj, kar 8,2 na imdb! Pred projekcijo fima (izseki) tudi krajše predavanje o filmu in podsaharski filmski produkciji, ki po količini splavljenih filmov začenja dosegati Bollywood, z lastnim imenom Nollywood.

Ugandski predsednik da ukaz častniku ugandske vojske, stotniku Alexu, naj porazi Tiger Mafio. Alex je žal ubit med operacijo. Po smrti Alexa se njegov brat odloči ugotovit, kdo je ubil Alexa.

Leta 1990 se je pisateljica Ursula K. Le Guin po skoraj dvajsetih letih vrnila v svet Zemljemorja s knjigo Tehanu, v kateri ponovno sledimo zgodbi zdaj že odrasle junakinje Tenar, ki smo jo spoznali v Atuanski grobnici, in čarovnika Geda, ki se je s svojega zadnjega podviga vrnil povsem opešan. Pogovarjali se bomo, ali se je medtem avtoričino pisanje spremenilo, kakšni so njeni pogledi na svet in katere nove vidike odpira. Za četrto srečanje je priporočljivo prebrati Tehanu v slovenskem prevodu Dušana Ogrizka.

Povzetek 1. Francoskega bralnega krožka

Na prvem srečanju Francoskega bralnega krožka smo v prav prijetnem številu ugotavljali, kakšno mesto imajo un tube, le chocolat blanc in une carpe v devetem romanu belgijske pisateljice Amélie Nothomb, naslovnjenem Métaphysique des tubes ter se pogovarjali o moči pogleda, prvih besedah in še marsičem.
Prihodnjič se vidimo čez dva meseca, 17. januarja 2018 ob 18. uri v Knjižnici Šiška, ko bo na sporedu Partir, nastal izpod peresa maroškega pisatelja Tahara Ben Jellouna.

Lezbično gledališče in gledališče čišče – Maja Šorli: Ponedeljek, 19. november 2018 ob 20:00–22:00

Ali v Sloveniji obstajajo uprizoritve, ki jih lahko razumemo kot primer lezbičnega gledališča? Kako sploh konceptualizirati ta pojem in ali ima model takšnega gledališča v Sloveniji lahko prihodnost? In kaj je gledališče čišče, žanr, ki ga je Maja Šorli v Manifestu za novo gledališče v reviji Dialogi leta 2017 definirala kot obrobno, a hkrati osvobojeno gledališko prakso. V predavanju bomo skupaj poiskali teoretsko presečišče med tema dvema pojmoma in gledališki užitek, ki ga obe praksi lahko ponudita danes.

Maja Šorli je urednica, raziskovalka, avtorica umetniških in strokovnih gledaliških besedil, dramaturginja, scenaristka in pedagoginja. Doktorirala je leta 2011 na UL AGRFT, kjer je zaposlena kot raziskovalka, predvsem pa je samozaposlena v kulturi kot dramaturginja. Leta 2014 je objavila znanstveno monografijo Slovenska postdramska pomlad (Knjižnica MGL). Souredila je monografije Skupnost emancipiranih misli in teles (Emanat, 2018), Hibridni prostori umetnosti (UL ARGFT in MASKA, 2012) in Dinamika sprememb v slovenskem gledališču 20. stoletja (UL ARGFT in MASKA, 2010).

Cikel predavanj Feminizem danes pripravljata Jasmina Založnik in Katja Čičigoj, v sodelovanju s KUD-om Anarhiv (v okviru programa Škratova čitalnica).

Zemljemorje 3. knjiga: Poslednja obala ponedeljek, 19.11. 2018, ob 17.30 v Knjižnici Šiška

Na polovici naše poti po Zemljemorju bomo na tretjem srečanju s čarovnikom Gedom, ki je medtem postal Arhimag, in mladim prestolonaslednikom Arrenom jadrali do poslednje obale. Med drugim se bomo pogovarjali o fantastičnih bitjih, kot so zmaji, ki se tokrat že pojavljajo v pomembnejši vlogi, in povzeli vsebinske razsežnosti prvih treh knjig, ki predstavljajo izvirno celoto. Za tretje srečanje je priporočljivo prebrati Poslednjo obalo v slovenskem prevodu Dušana Ogrizka.

Super Slabi Filmi: It Conquered the World (1956) + The She-Creature (1956)

K človeka prašaš, če pozna Roxy & Elsewhere plato in ti odgovori: “Nism fen!” Vprašanje je blo, če poznaš. Sheesh. Some people.

Let me tell you something, do you like monster movies? Anybody? I LOVE monster movies, I simply adore monster movies, and the cheaper they are, the better they are. And cheepnis in the case of a monster movie has nothing to do with the budget of the film, although it helps, but true cheepnis is exemplified by visible nylon strings attached to the jaw of a giant spider . . . I’ll tell you, a good one that I saw one time, I think the name of the film was “IT CONQUERED THE WORLD,” and the . . . Did you ever see that one? The monster looks sort of like an inverted ice-cream cone with teeth around the bottom. It looks like a (phew!), like a teepee or . . . sort of a rounded off pup-tent affair, and, uh, it’s got fangs on the base of it, I don’t know why but it’s a very threatening sight, and then he’s got a frown and, you know, ugly mouth and everything, and there’s this one scene where the, uh, monster is coming out of a cave, see? There’s always a scene where they come out of a cave, at least once, and the rest of the cast . . . it musta been made around the 1950’s, the lapels are about like that wide, the ties are about that wide and about this short, and they always have a little revolver that they’re gonna shoot the monster with, and there is always a girl who falls down and twists her ankle . . . heh-hey! Of course there is! You know how they are, the weaker sex and everything, twisting their ankle on behalf of the little ice-cream cone. Well in this particular scene, in this scene, folks, they, uh, they didn’t wanna re-take it ’cause it musta been so good they wanted to keep it, but they . . . when the monster came out of the cave, just over on the left hand side of the screen you can see about this much two-by-four attached to the bottom of the Thing as the guy is pushing it out, and then obviously off-camera somebody’s goin’: “NO! GET IT BACK!” And they drag it back just a little bit as the guy is goin’: “KCH! KCH!” Now that’s cheepnis.

Med novembrom 2018 in majem 2019 bo v sodelovanju z Mestno knjižnico Ljubljana (Enota Šiška) potekal francoski literarni krožek, kjer se bomo enkrat na dva meseca pogovarjali o enem izmed sodobnih romanov znanih francoskih pisateljic in pisateljev.

Beremo v izvirniku, prav tako tudi krožek praviloma poteka v francoščini, torej je namenjen vsem, ki imate solidno znanje francoskega jezika (vsaj nivo B1) in radi berete sodobno leposlovje.

Na prvem srečanju se bomo pogovarjali o devetem romanu znane belgijske pisateljice, Amélie Nothomb, ki nosi naslov Métaphysique des tubes (Metafizika cevi). Amélie v avtobiografskem romanu prefinjeno in ironično opisuje prva tri leta svojega življenja, ki jih je preživela na Japonskem.  

V Mestni knjižnici Ljubljana je dostopen tudi slovenski prevod romana.

Francoski literarni krožek vodi študentka angleščine in francoščine, Aicha Boughazi, ki je v letu 2015/2016 vodila brezplačni francoski krožek v okviru KUD Anarhiv (Škratova čitalnica) ter spomladi 2017 tudi prvo edicijo Francoskega literarnega krožka.

Francoski literarni krožek sofinancirajo KUD Anarhiv (program Škratova čitalnica), Mestna knjižnica Ljubljana in Francoski inštitut v Sloveniji.

Hana Hunjet je študentka 4. letnika likovne pedagogike, ki v sliki in risbi raziskuje linije in oblike ter s tem kompozicijo, slednje pa s poetično intenco nadgrajuje z izbiro barv in vzorci. Dela so v večini abstraktna in razen naključnih subjektivnih ugotovitev gledalca ne nosijo jasne vsebine, s tem pa zavzemajo čisto likovno sfero.

Razstava Hane Hunjet se odvija v okviru Škratove galerije, dejavnosti Škratove čitalnice. Škratovo čitalnico sofinancira Mestna občina Ljubljana.
